Semu Poultry

Mrs Semu came to us for an investment to buy a small incubator to hatch eggs for poultry production. Chickens and their eggs are an important source of protein in Tanzania and there is good demand for chicks, which she will sell when they are about five days old, to avoid the risk and expense of keeping large numbers of older chickens. Mrs Semu is a retired administrator who has experience of keeping livestock and poultry, including her current stock of breeding hens and cocks. She is investing about Tsh 2.9 million (£1450) of her own money to pay for electricity installation and water connection, as well as a building. The investment will create one new job.
