Equity for Africa raises capital to invest profitably in small businesses and has built the infrastructure to manage the investments. It enables local people to improve their livelihoods by creating sustainable employment.

Raising Social Investment Capital
Equity for Africa is raising capital for the Equity for Tanzania fund, to provide equipment finance for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Tanzania. The fund will address the gap between microfinance loans (financing below $750) and venture capital ($500,000+), which is holding back SME development and job creation.

Creating Sustainable Employment
The Equity for Tanzania Fund will focus on agricultural and food processing and manufacturing sectors, initially in northern Tanzania. It will improve the livelihoods among the rural poor by creating jobs. Once the money is paid back to the Fund, it will be reinvested in new businesses, creating further employment. We are already considering proposals from 10 different businesses.

Establishing Financial Infrastructure
We are establishing a fund management business in Tanzania, EFT Capital Management Ltd, to manage the Equity for Tanzania Fund. This will be resourced by an experienced fund manager and is a joint venture with our Tanzanian partner, Bumaco Ltd. Due diligence and monitoring of Fund investments will be done by EFT Capital Management, supervised by the Fund's Investment Board.

Building Relationships
We are seeking to build relationships between people and organisations in high and low income countries. We encourage investors in the Equity for Tanzania Fund to get to know the people and businesses in which the Fund invests and, where appropriate, to lend their skills.

Equity for Africa is a charity, registered with the Inland Revenue
